blah blah blah blah Halo blah blah blah blah Call of Duty blah blah blah blah Battlefield (I promise, more actual substantive opinion below)

I'm looking over at the Kotaku/GameTrailers/Spike coverage and I have a hard time figuring out what the big deal is. Then again I've pretty much more or less left the "gaming world" a few years ago due to a lack of interest and a few events that just kicked in a change of interests and priorities. That said, I see a lot of the same FPS's over and over again with either minor gameplay gimmicks trying to prop them up or mostly banking on a big-name franchise behind it (CoD: AW I'm looking right at you). Or quite literally a rehash of the same damn game again (Halo, yeah I'm looking right at you too now). I'm not going to say that I don't think there's innovation in gaming anymore, but I just haven't seen anything that is going to make me rush over to the Kotaku or GT coverage when I feel I have better and/or more important things to do and I can just read up on industry opinion and highlights when it's over.

That's not to say I didn't see stuff that didn't wow me. I'm really surprised how much Battlefield: Los Santos Hardline wowed me. Hell I signed up for the beta the very second they announced it was open. Dead Rising: Saints Row Sunset Overdrive (or whatever it's called) wowed me too. I really liked that 2D platformer that I keep missing the name of because every time they show it I have my head turned away. Evolve looks like a legitimately innovative FPS, though I don't know how they're going to keep it interesting in a perpetual 4 v 1 format unless 1.) it's offered at a rock-bottom priced DLC format or 2.) it offers 4 v 4 gameplay mechanics as its actual "meat".

And now let's get to the racing games - I mean, this is OppoLock after all. I'm actually legitimately excited about this stuff - Horizon 2 looks downright beautiful. Blah blah blah, blah blah blah, more of that same opinion, the takeaway is that this is the best era of racing gaming and that should be obvious. Also yay! Nurburgring! Yay, free! Boo, I don't have Forza 5 :(

As a final note, I'm watching Esquire because I was hoping they might have some E3 coverage (carryover from G4, after all): nope! They had an interesting segment on the Icon guys (yes, as in the Bronco/FJ guys). Just saw a promo for some show called "Lucky Bastards" and it has to be the most misogynist POS I've seen in...sadly, I can't finish that with "in a while."

Horizon 2 looks like what if Turn 10 makes TDU.

But unless Polyphony did Gran Turismo like Horizon (set in japan, perhaps. Who doesn't want to drift around Tokyo with Silvia, FnF Style?) I'll buy the Xbox one for that

I'm in the same boat. Not nearly as into games as I used to be, and everything seems to be another version of COD. The Crew looks interesting, I signed up for the beta, Evolve is going to be awesome, and No Man's Sky (I think that's it? Spacey thing shown at Sony's conference) looked AMAZING.

I feel like Battlefield: Hardline is going to be dissapointing for people like you or I who are tired of the same old shooters. The gameplay trailer looked awesome, but scripted. It's probably going to end up like Rush in BF usually does where you get stuck on a shit team that never makes it past the first objective.

Hardline unfortunately seems cooler than it actually is. I'm still excited about No Man's Sky though.
